Case Study of Failed Retaining Wall in Visakhapatnam, India

The Structural Failure of a Retaining Wall.

Heavy rains caused a cantilever basement retaining wall in Dwarakanagar Visakhapatnam to fail. The four basement boundary walls began to crack severely at the corners and yielded inwards. The failure was analyzed and recreated to determine the root causes of this issue. The backfill properties were analyzed in a laboratory and the wall was redesigned with the expected lateral earth pressure. The study determined that the original structure had incorrect backfill properties and inadequate weep holes.

This case study found a combination of issues with this failed retaining wall. The absence of proper weep holes was one of them. Build retaining walls with the proper drainage systems to protect from hydro-static pressure build up. Contact Jet Filter System today.
